Doctor who was paralyzed after consuming medicine passes away

Kochi: Ayurvedic doctor, who had been lying paralyzed for years after consuming a medicine to prove that it was not poisonous, has passed away. The unfortunate victim Dr Baiju had lost his memory after consuming the drug and was rendered paralyzed following the incident.
It was on 25 January, 2007, that the incident which changed the life of Baiju, son of Payipramanari Pandiputhanpura M. Ayyappan and Leela, took place.
On the fateful day, one of Baiju's patient alleged that a medicine he had prescribed for her was poisoned. The doctor had prescribed the medicine at Bison Valley Ayurveda Clinic. On seeing the patient, who was brought to him in an unstable condition, the doctor consumed the medicine to prove that it was not poisonous.
However, Dr Baiju fell unconscious immediately and lost his speech ability since then. He lost his ability to move and was soon written off by doctors. Although he was taken for treatment elsewhere, his condition did not improve.
Later, it was found that organophosphorus, an insecticide, had caused the condition in him. It became clear that someone could have laced the medicine with the pesticide, which the unfortunate doctor consumed. Even though the husband of the patient was arrested, the probe reached nowhere.
